Did you know that Barb Hotson has been teaching with Artbarn since 2005? In fact her barn was the inspiration for the original idea and name of our school! The founders of Artbarn – Frith Bail, Mary Thelander and Linda McMaster envisioned an art school in the city that reflected the timeless legacy of country barns like Barb’s and the hard work of those who built them.

During the pandemic Barb transitioned to Zoom online classes and through her passion for watercolour she has reached hundreds of students from around the world. Artbarn School was designed from the beginning to be a place for adults and children to learn about art. Our decision to register as a not-for-profit reflects our commitment to education. As the school grew and became a registered charity we were happy to take on the management of Art for Cancer encouraged by one of our board members, Cid Pilacio.
