Description
Craving studio time but missing a dedicated space to create? Join ceramic artist and former film industry prop builder Heidi Graf for a self-guided independent pottery wheel session. This 4-week mini session is the perfect opportunity to work on your own projects at your own pace, while still having direct access to an expert instructor for questions, tips, and tricks.

*Skill Requirements*
- This course is designed strictly for potters with intermediate experience.
- Independence: Participants must be able to cut, wedge, centre, open, pull, and shape, their own pieces independently with minimal guidance.
- Bat setup: Those throwing on bats must already know how to secure bats to the wheel without pins, or simply throw directly on the wheel head.
*Studio Schedule & Firing*
- Kiln Readiness: All pieces from your throwing and assembling sessions must be completed by the end of the 3rd week and be kiln-ready to dry on their own prior to their bisque firing.
- Glazing class: The final 3-hour class will be completely dedicated to glazing with both studio dip and brush-on cone 6 glazes.
*Materials & Supplies*
- Clay: Students must purchase studio clay (Tucker’s Mid Smooth Stone) in either a 1/2 or full bag.
- Tools: You will have access to all basic studio tools. However, it is highly recommended that participants bring their own personal throwing kit.

Heidi Graf
Heidi Graf is a Pickering-based potter and educator who believes that every student brings a unique perspective to the studio. A member of the Durham Potters Guild, Heidi’s creative background is as diverse as her work; she brings years of experience as a special effects prop builder for film and television, a professional in restaurant management, and a mother. These roles have shaped her into a patient, high-energy mentor who values technical “movie-magic” precision alongside the joy of “playing with mud.”
Specializing in functional forms and expert glazing, Heidi’s teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that everyone has something to teach. This June at Artbarn School, she invites students of all levels to master the wheel and hand building in a supportive environment where community and creativity go hand-in-hand.
