Discover or rediscover the joy of portrait painting. This intensive 5-hour workshop bridges structural drawing and mixed-media painting, perfect for intermediate artists looking to expand their skills. Moving fluidly between watercolour, pastels, acrylics, and collage, you will balance form with expressive freedom. Through quick exercises and layering, you will create a vibrant, deeply personal portrait that speaks your own artistic language. Please note there will be a 30 minute break for lunch. For intermediate painters with some acrylic experience.
PROJECT GOALS & OBJECTIVES
● Simplify the head by using blocking-in and relative proportions
● Let your palette be personalized w/ colour harmony that drives emotional expression.
● Confidently integrate diverse mediums (watercolours, acrylics, acrylic ink, dip pen, drawing tools, and collage components) on canvas.
● Celebrate the Process of Creation over perfection: Let your final product be a lively, visually rich narrative that values raw energy and creative decision-making.

Your Instructor
Afsaneh Akhoondi
Afsaneh Akhoondi is a Toronto-based visual artist and experienced art educator who has taught drawing, painting, and printmaking at both the post-secondary and community levels. Her works are inspired by her life experience. She believes in drawing from everything around her; she mainly focuses on portraiture that captures the visible emotions and inherent courage of women. In her contemporary mixed-media and installation work, she integrates diverse materials to connect personal narrative with cultural identity. Afsaneh has presented eight solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions across Europe and Canada, and has participated in an artist residency and masterclass in Paris. She holds a Bachelor’s in Painting, a Master of Fine Arts, and a Certificate in Arts Management from Centennial College.
