“Tra la! It’s May! The lusty month of May! That lovely month when ev’ryone goes. Blissfully astray!” – Camelot
Painting our way into summer we will celebrate colour, warmth and exuberance! By request we are returning home to be where we live during this glorious season. We will duplicate the experience of painting “en plein air” once again. Subjects include the Gooderham flat iron building in the rain (bring your umbrella), your favourite beach, an outdoor clothes line, some fun urban sketches, and the abundance of the garden. As always , we’ll loosen up with a quirky contour drawing , a meditative colour study and a fun skill practice. This session you are invited to bring a personal reference to do your own project – from a photo , a card or a clipping – during the last half hour of each class (with help and encouragement from the group). Time flies by as you experience the magic of watercolour!
Barb encourages questions and participation. Beginners welcome.

Barbara Hotson
Barbara Hotson (Honours BA, MA) lives and paints at Applegate Farm near Walters Falls. She has been painting exclusively in Watercolour for twenty years. Endlessly intrigued and challenged by the interaction of water and pigment on paper or watercolour canvas she has resisted the sirens’ call to experiment in other mediums.
She early on gravitated to painting in series and developed a sub- text for each. Her Country Roads Series depicts the landscapes of Southwestern Ontario; the culture and heritage they represent. The Beaches Series celebrates her love the water and the magic of sand and sun.; how the image of a beach brings out the child in all of us. The Gates Series is about the Transitions in our lives; how we don’t get to see what is on the other side until we pass through the gate.
Barb participates in the Autumn Leaves Studio Tour, The Escarpment Tour and teaches at Artbarn School in Toronto. Her work has been described as “magical and luminous” and her students describe her teaching as “opening our eyes to possibilities”. She enjoys doing commissions and working with a client to create something unique and special.
