Description
Have fun creating some spectacular pottery pieces from scratch. Explore different hand building techniques such as slabs, coils, textures, stamps, templates and moulds to create unique pieces such as baskets, bowls, vases, platters and more. In an easy step-by-step instruction style, expect to make functional or sculptural pieces from a bird house or spoon rests to fruit or cat sculptures. After the first firing in the studio kiln, you will glaze your pieces, which will be fired once more for a colourful and professional looking result.

Shayne Berlin-Snaiderman
For the past 25 years Shayne Berlin-Snaiderman has taught pottery to children, adults, and seniors. She has a diploma in Ceramics from George Brown College. After graduation, she became an artist in residence at Clay Design and got her first teaching job at The Pottery on Bloor West. Teaching then became her focus. Opportunities arrived from Parks and Recreation, Summer Camps, The Heschel School, The Potter’s Studio, The Bernard Betel Centre, after-school programs, as well as workshops for special needs children and adults. She has taught at Art Barn since 2012 and particularly enjoys the centrally located well-equipped facility and the camaraderie amongst her students. After covering the basics, her approach to teaching is to show complicated techniques step by step, making them accessible even to beginners. She is most inspired by the creative potential of hand building and sculpting. Most of all, she believes that everyone is capable of unleashing their creativity and producing pieces they thought they could never achieve before.
