Laurie Stein
Laurie is an award winning artist from Toronto. Since graduating from OCAD, she has been painting on canvases with her work on display in homes throughout North America and Europe. She won the Canadian entry for her painting entitled “DOUBLE TAKE” at the Spanish Miradas International Art Competition 2016, under the pseudonym Laurie Andrews, and again in 2018 for her painting, “AS I SEE IT”, this time entered as Laurie Stein. She has been profiled in various magazines over the years, with the most recent, Muskoka Magazine’s August edition 2022. She is represented by Red Canoe Gallery in Port Carling and The Koyman Galleries in Ottawa. If Laurie isn’t painting on canvases she is digitally illustrating/designing children’s books on her tablet/cintiq. Her book, SPECTACULARLY BEAUTIFUL, Powbooks NY, was given a stellar review by the New York Times, a Heather’s Pick for Best Books for kids 2019 and the coveted Kirkus star, selling worldwide. Her book, WHEN THE EARTH SHOOK, Tilbury House, Maine, was released to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Earth day. It too is a Heather’s Pick, chosen as a best picture book 2020 by Publisher’s Spotlight and the Canadian Children’s Book Centre.
If not painting or illustrating, she is designing characters for tv shows and licensing her art with the Suzanne Cruise Creative Agency in the US. She teaches adults and children to draw digitally as well as on paper through Zoom classes. Laurie has spent every summer at her cottage in Muskoka and over the last decade uses her cottage as her studio to paint. The rest of the year she lives in Toronto.
