Description

This beginner/intermediate clay building workshop will introduce to students to the coiling method of hand building. Sundus will provide a coiling demonstration followed by lots of time for practice and individual feedback. All materials will be supplied. After students are happy with their vase form and shape, we will explore various ways to add decoration with carving, stamping, etc. We will be working in red clay for this workshop. Students may choose whether to leave their piece unglazed or choose a clear glaze. 

Open to all levels. 

Firing included.

Vases will be available for pick 1-2 weeks following the workshop.

Sundus Salamé

Sundus Salamé (she/her) is a multi-disciplinary visual artist specializing in ceramics. She works primarily with earthenware and stoneware clay as a medium to create decorative, functional, or wearable pieces. Sundus has been teaching ceramic classes and workshops for over 7 years. She worked as the Manager & Head Instructor of an open pottery studio in Cambridge, Ontario for 5 years. With a passion for community-based education, she strives to create an inclusive, supportive learning environment where participants of all skill levels can build their confidence and explore their creativity. She is currently pursuing her Master of Fine Arts at OCAD University, where she is researching body-material relations through clay and working as a Teaching Assistant. She is particularly interested in the intersection of art, care, and accessibility, and in fostering creative spaces that prioritize both skill development and a sense of belonging.
