This new course will explore the depiction of animals and birds throughout art history. Students will focus on understanding and illustrating animals through drawing and acrylic painting. The fundamentals of line, animal anatomy, textures, highlights and shadows will be covered. Students will be encouraged to express themselves with creativity and explore their favourite animals. Besides the technical skills of drawing and experiencing different media, we will also discuss related historical and contemporary artists’ work through slideshows and explore this rich source of inspiration for many artists.
- 1 pad of newsprint
- 1 pad of Water Colour Paper, the cold press is recommended (cold press is textured)
- Drawing Pencil: 2B, 5B, 8B
- India Ink: Black (you can also use a set of Water Colours)
- Ink Pen: 05
- Round brushes, 3 sizes (small to medium)
- Kneaded eraser
- Acrylic paints and canvases

Leila Refahi is an experienced art teacher and researcher with a demonstrated history of working in Visual Art.
